Headteacher's Welcome

Headteacher's Welcome

The school has a wonderfully positive and warm environment. The school’s vision encapsulates the ethos of the school. Everyone wants the very best for all pupils. As a result, pupils are highly motivated and achieve well. They thoroughly enjoy learning and many produce work of a high quality.

OFSTED 2024

Naunton Park is a two-form entry primary school located in Leckhampton, Cheltenham.  We very much view ourselves as a big school with a family school feel. I began as Headteacher in September 2022 and it has been a privilege to get to know our children, the team and the school community so that we can work together to create a school where our children achieve great things in a great way. High-quality education for all is paramount. Our aim is for Naunton Park Primary School to be a beacon of excellence at the heart of its community.

Our school has a tradition of providing a lively, vibrant, stimulating and inclusive education. It is our aim to give every child the best education possible, through excellent teaching based on the needs of the individual child within a carefully planned creative and broad curriculum. We work very hard to provide a happy, caring and secure environment in which children can succeed and enjoy their primary years.

We are very keen that through their learning and experiences, children gain not only knowledge and understanding, but also the skills, self-discipline, confidence and motivation that will enable them to become successful and enthusiastic learners. Great emphasis is also placed on helping children to develop personal and social skills that will enable them to become valued and responsible members of the school and local communities. Strong relationships and well-being underpins everything we do so that our children feel happy, safe and have a sense of belonging.

The school is a calm and orderly place. There are high expectations for behaviour. Most pupils follow these well. This begins in Reception where children quickly learn the rules and routines. Pupils are polite and well mannered. They play well together during social times.

We are very proud of our bespoke Naunton Park CHALLENGE Curriculum. Both broad and balanced, the school advocates that “Reading” is the beating heart of the curriculum and the gateway to the whole school curriculum. It is designed to help children know more and remember more, be inquisitive and active participants in their learning.

There is exceptionally high ambition for all pupils to learn to read and to develop a love of reading. There is a consistent approach to the teaching of reading. Pupils learn to read fluently and confidently. They enjoy listening to the stories that teachers read to them. The school has carefully selected high-quality texts to expose pupils to a wide range of genres and authors. These texts also help to enrich learning across curriculum.

Our children will experience a wide range of opportunities from termly Forest School lessons, exciting educational experiences and OPAL play sessions. Every term our children are out and about, from the Living Rainforest to Cotswold's Wildlife Park to Bristol Museums. All children attend the literature and Science festivals which we can walk to.

A significant number of pupils benefit from the many extra-curricular clubs that the school offers. These include choir, cross country, music clubs, sporting activities and drama. The opportunities the school provides help pupils to expand their interests and to discover and develop new talents. Pupils take part in a wide range of enrichment activities. For example, visiting the local literature festival and attending outdoor learning activities. These opportunities help pupils to broaden their experiences beyond the classroom.

We encourage all prospective parents to visit our school, where you will receive a warm welcome and guided tour from our team.

 Warmest wishes,

Mrs Gayle Fletcher
